Wow!  It has been months since I have been on here!  I apologize for not being around and not keeping up with ya'll!  This summer has been crazy busy....and I can't believe that we are back in school already!

I started out my summer with a whirlwind trip down to Ohio....I was able to see my friend Erica get married -- she was a gorgeous bride and the wedding was beautiful!  I was also able to spend time with Dennis and Diane and my dear friend Sarah!!!  (I will have to find my pictures and post them soon!)

On my way home from OH, I swung by PA and picked up Janelle and the kids.  Karee and her kids were visiting and so Janelle came home with me to spend time with them.  They were here for a couple of weeks!  It was so much fun to have all the kids together!  I have to say I commend young moms and have a deep respect for them -- it is a very hard and tiring job!

After Janelle and Karee left, my Aunt Sharon and Uncle Bud were visiting from CA.  I haven't seen them in several years, so it was so good to see them.  One of the days they were here, we went up to Mackinaw for the day.  It was one of the best afternoons of the summer.  It was so relaxing and to be in Mackinaw....that's one of my favorite places!!

This past month I actually joined a company called Premier Designs.  It is a high fashion jewelry line.  I am now a jeweler -- and I absolutely loved the jewelry!  It has been a lot of fun...and I am looking forward to seeing how this will impact my life!

This fall I am also going to be a part of a Christmas production our church puts on every year.  Our Christmas Dessert Theater is doing "The Christmas Shoes" this year, and I am part of the celebration singers.  I've noticed a theme starting to take shape in my life this fall -- overcoming fear.  Becoming a jeweler for Premier was the first step -- doing home shows, meeting new people and speaking in front of them -- I definitely need overcome fear for that.  But singing in the Christmas Dessert Theater is huge for me.  Singing and choreography...!  Pastor Adam also surprised me on Tuesday by telling me I was going to have a solo!  Yikes!!!!  I'll DEFINITELY be trying to overcome some fear when it comes to this!!!

School started this week for me!  I always forget how hard the first week is!  Surprisingly we didn't have any criers!  We just had the issues of trying to teach the routine and expectations!  This year we found out from the state early that we would be receiving all the funding we had asked for, which meant that we were able to hire another preschool teacher!  She is really great and I am excited to work with her.  The funny part is, her parents knew my parents from way back when -- they went to the same church together!  I was so excited to hear that she has a Christian background and upbringing!!

Well, only 1 week of school and I'm already fighting a cold or something!   I wish these kids knew how to keep their germs to themselves!  I'm doing everything I can to get rid of it -- and I am taking suggestions!!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Wow....lots has happened since I wrote last!  One of the biggest things is that Spring has arrived!!   Now, when you live in Northern Michigan, even though it looks and feels like spring, there's always a thought that snow could be back at some point!  We're not safe from snow until we're half way through May!  However, this weather has been absolutely gorgeous this week!  My kids and I have enjoyed spending extra time on the playground, taking nature walks to discover new flowers that are blooming and just simply standing in the sunshine!!

With spring happening, things at school have begun to pick up!  Lots of paperwork, testing, report cards, special projects, etc. to get done within the next couple of weeks!  On top of all that kind of stuff, kids at my school seem to be catching (and sharing) spring colds/flu/pink eye, etc!!    Unfortunately my kids chose to share their pink eye with me (despite all the hand sanitizer and hand washing I use/do)!

Friday was my preschool round-up!  I met with most of the perspective parents for next years preschool class!  It went really great...I think I'll have some fun (and interesting) kids again next year!

Well, I thought I'd share a couple kid stories before I get going....

  • Last week we were learning about spring.  I had this project for them to make -- it was an acorn on the front of this card...you opened it up and then they made the oak tree on the inside.  So, when I showed the kids the front of the card, I asked what it was...and they told me, "An acorn."  Then they all got very excited because they had acorns at their house, just like the acorn on the card.  So as I continued, I asked, "What do acorns make?"  And a very excited little boy yells out, "GIANT SQUIRRELS!"
  • One thing about my classroom that I do not like is that we have stink-bugs.  When the kids see the stink-bugs they always want to squish them...to which I always tell them not to because they really do stink (a lot)!!  Well, that explanation just was not holding up, as kids thought it was cool to squish them.  However, they always complained about the smell.  So...I named our stink-bugs "Freddy"!!  Whenever they see a stink-bug, they always let me know that "Freddy" came to school!   WELL, today one of my little girls comes running over to me and she says, "Miss Shev, Freddy is here on the window."  So I said, "He is?  What is he doing?"  And she replies, "Oh...he's just going for a Sunday stroll."  I just started laughing and I said, "Really?" And she ran off to the window.  A couple seconds later she's back and says, "Miss Shev, he said yes."  So I asked what he said yes to.  She looks at me and says. "Oh, I forgot to ask him the question."  So she runs off to the window and I hear her say, "Freddy, are you going for your Sunday stroll?"
  • Several weeks ago, I was kneeling down at a table to help one of my little girls and she says, "Your hair smells pretty Miss Shev."  So I said thank you.  And she continues, "It smells like my moms.  Did you use my mom's shower today?"

Well, I hope you enjoyed my stories...sometimes kids say the funniest things and come up with the funniest things!  Here are a few pictures from the past month or so...Enjoy!

'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus...

I had a pretty spectacular surprise this week.  Wednesday night I was helping my mom with dinner...my dad was not feeling well, so I was helping get his ready, when I got a phone call.  It was M.R., my principal at school.  She was calling to tell me that we had received a letter from the state of Michigan informing us that we were going to receive funding for this year.  But not the funding we were expecting (for the 16 students).  We are going to be receiving funding above and beyond what we were expecting to get.  Therefore, that meant that my assistant and I would be reinstated back to full time employees, with the benefits.

It also means that we have enough money for another preschool section.  So, my principal is calling families trying to round up enough kids for another section to start after spring break.  In order to use the funding, the section would have to meet for at least 60 days -- which means, that third section will go through the month of June.  Right now they are planning on "subbing" out the position through May.  Then when my current classes finish in May, my assistant and I would take over that class for the remainder of the time.   We are still working out all the details...hopefully I'll know everything before spring break!

I have to admit, when we did not receive the anticipated funding for my program this year, it was pretty disappointing and discouraging.  It was really hard leaving my apartment and not having the security of a "full-time" job.  However, over the past couple of months I just realized that I just had to deal with it and accept it and just keep on doing my job the best I can and trust that this was all part of God's plan for me.  'Tis so sweet to Trust in Jesus...!!  I just want to thank everyone who prayed for my job situation this fall!!  Although I did not see the answers that I wanted to then...I guess God was just continually teaching me to patiently wait for His answers!

This weekend my mom and I made pierogis.  My parents and I normally make them on Christmas Eve, but with everyone home this year...and battling the stomach flu....we thought we'd wait to make them now for Easter!  Pierogis are one of my favorite meals -- probably because we only have it about once a year!

I have one more week until Spring Break.  I am very excited for Spring Break because I am planning on going to PA to see my sister and family!  I haven't seen them since Christmas...I know my niece has gotten so much bigger since then!  I can't wait to go and spoil both her and AJ!   Hopefully it will be a little warmer in PA than it has been here in T.C.!

I also have only a little over a week until Baseball's opening day!    I will be at Janelle and Aaron's for it -- but will definitely check out the scores online!  I might also paint my nails orange and blue for it!  I figure AJ would probably think that's pretty cool!!

My mom and I are competing against each other for March Madness.  Right now I think my mom might have a slight lead -- but I have confidence that I can overtake her as the tournament continues!  The loser has to buy the winner  Coldstone Creamery ice-cream....so it will definitely be worth winning!

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend!

It has begun...

So today is the start of a new month!  I was just telling my mom how excited I was to start the month of March...because March shows the light at the end of the tunnel (I hope)!  The temperatures should start rising, the snow should start melting.  Now, I know that when you live in Northern Michigan, the snow will not be completely gone until at least May.  However, we should start to see Spring trying to show itself along the way!  The last month or so, I have really been fighting the winter blues!!  I just do not like temperatures that do not get out of the single digits, or weeks where it snows everyday during that week!  Last weekend we got a taste of spring....it was sunny all weekend and the temps were in the 30's!!!  (Which felt very warm to me!)

March is also the beginning of something I have grown to love and become "obsessed" with!  BASEBALL!!!  Spring Training is underway for Baseball!  Now, I know that Spring Training games do not mean a whole lot -- however, they do get the fans excited!  And as my title mentioned....the "trash talk" has begun!  Over the last few months I have discovered that my dad is more of a Yankee fan than a Tiger fan, which of course, does not sit well with me!  So, you can imagine the discussions we get into!  I think half of it is that I react -- so my dad just wants to see how worked up I will get!  Despite who's cheering for which team, I love that I have gotten my parents excited for baseball as well!!

School is chugging right along!  I cover themes with my students...so looking at the different themes that we have left to learn about, I think the next 2 months are going to fly by!  Especially because there is so much extra things to do in between!  I know I've had some funny kid stories, but I just can't seem to think of them at the moment!

My mom is teaching me how to knit!  Last week I knitted a scarf and last night I made a hat!  At our church they are collecting hats, mittens, scarves, etc. for one of our mission areas in Russia!  I am excited to be able to participate in this ministry and to be able to have something to do with my mom!  Last night I made a "Tiger" hat -- out of orange and blue thread!  I must say that I really liked how it turned out -- I may have to make one for myself! And since my relatives are Ukrainian/Russian....I want to make sure that they cheer for the right team!

Well, I guess that's all I have for now..... I hope that you are having an excellent weekend!!

Wow....I can't believe that I haven't been updated in about a month and a half!!!  I have been trying to get on every now and then, just to keep up with what's going on with the rest of you....but to be very honest, I just haven't gotten on xanga very much recently!!

So....a quick recap on life.....Christmas was very interesting and fun --- and a Christmas the Shev clan will not forget!  Christmas day and the couple days following, the adults started dropping like flies because of the flu bug.  Nathan and Shawnna had not arrived from Chicago yet, so we kept calling them each day with updates.  By Friday, everyone was starting to feel better (we thought) and Nathan and Shawnna came over so we could finally celebrate Christmas.  Friday evening, Karee came down with the flu.  After it was all over....Brandon and I were the only adults "left standing"!!!  Although, I don't think either one of us felt 100% either!!  Like I said....the flu made Christmas very interesting....and one that we will never forget!!  We were able to just be together, which was the important thing!  It was so neat to see AJ and Little Brandon play together and see them interact!  It was also neat to have the two little baby girls side by side!!  The girls got their share of being held during the week (by the healthy ones) -- I don't think those babies were ever put down!!  One of my favorite things about the week is my constant roommates!!  I started out sharing my room with Ellie!!  I loved watching her sleep and hearing her little noises!  When both Janelle and Aaron had the flu, I gave Ellie back to her mommy and had AJ in my room with me!!  As with Ellie...I loved watching him sleep!!  He normally would wake up much to early to get up for the day....so I would pull him in bed with me so we could go back to sleep!!  Even though it's tiring having babies sleeping in the same bedroom, it was worth it -- I loved being able to have that time with those two (even though i was half asleep most of the time)!!

Since the holidays, things have gotten back to normal and are chugging right along!  I have heard some rumors that there is a possibility my program at school might get it's funding returned.  Supposedly there is a bill going before the House -- and if passed, things could return to normal!  I'm afraid to get my hopes up, however, because I'm not sure that it will really happen!!  This week has been just great!!  As I write this I am curled up on my couch enjoying my 2nd snow day in a row!!!  Although I am getting tired of this wintry weather (and cold, cold temperatures that are below zero)...I must say, I can't complain when I am enjoying snow days because of it!

Well, here are a couple pictures from Christmas!!  I hope you enjoy...stay warm!!!
